ONE MISSION STATEMENT

To empower families living with autism through the world of gaming.

To create safe and inclusive spaces for everyone.

To provide individuals of ALL abilities with a lasting outlet for positive social interaction.

ONE MANDATE

The Playroom Experiment encompasses the Path of Play mission around a single question...

How can we use gaming to lift the lives of others?

All of our efforts center on ideas that must be inclusive and recurring.

Within this core mandate, we facilitate the following initiatives.

FAMILY GAMING EVENTS

There are MANY families living with special needs that struggle to enjoy social circles.

Sadly, this is because in far too many cases, their journey comes with judgement and ridicule.

NOT all families find themselves dealing with this specific challenge, but for those who are, we want to help. Otherwise, the outcome is a complete detachment from the experiences many of us can enjoy at freewill.

Path of Play works to change this by inviting these families to gaming events which serve them first.  ALL families are welcome however, because we strive to create spaces that are truly inclusive.

We are proud of this initiative because it becomes a wonderful way to build awareness and ultimately, acceptance.

THERAPY CENTER AND SCHOOL COMMUNITY GAMING PROGRAMS

When we plant seeds for our younger generation, it paints a much more promising picture for their future.

This is why the work we do in schools and autism therapy centers are, in large part, the heart and soul of Path of Play.

This program puts a focus on special needs students and others who struggle to connect socially.  What makes this initiative so wonderful however, is that we include the older students to serve as ambassadors with teacher guidance.  The result is one of transformation, as it strengthens a school community through understanding and acceptance.

THE BEST PART?

All of it is done through the love of gaming.

Our base investment requirement with a new institution partner is $2,000 USD. It is the FIRST PHASE of our program and will provide a school or a therapy center with the following:

  • A STARTUP LIBRARY OF BOARD GAMES

  • A NINTENDO SWITCH CONSOLE WITH PERIPHERALS AND SUPER MARIO MAKER 2

As the program builds momentum we then plan to move their program into PHASE 2 and will include the following gaming tools.

  • AN EXPANSION OF THEIR BOARD GAME LIBRARY

  • TWO MICROSOFT XBOX ONE CONSOLES WITH ACCESSIBILITY CONTROLLERS, AND PROGRAM FRIENDLY GAMES

All of the above facets will serve to maximize access to gaming, address challenges in rules retention, and create an overall cohesive environment for every student or therapy client.

And finally, some of our partners will explore PHASE 3

A PINBALL MACHINE

In the second or third year of a program, some facilities will option to raise additional funds to use pinball activities as another support outlet.

The investment required to achieve this will come from pinball advocates who wish to run competitive tournaments, as well as the institutions who work with us as fund raising partners.

Pinball is a wonderful option for kids because it offers immediate accessibility and it breed tremendous enthusiasm and joy for those new to this activity.

CONVENTION ACTIVITIES AND

SENSORY FRIENDLY SERVICES

Conventions are amazing experiences, but can easily become overwhelming.

Our sole priority at a convention is to offer quiet spaces for both gaming and down time.  By working with organizations local to the event, we can provide families living with special needs a way to be part of these unique and memorable experiences.

2020 will be the first year we offer sensory friendly spaces by definition, and we are very glad to serve families and convention in this manner.

We are currently partnered with The Origins Game Fair and making plans to be a part of PAX Unplugged 2020.

ONE FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

Our approach to fund raising is simple one.  We believe that a lot of people doing a small thing is what will make this project long lasting and above all else, effective.

If you feel there merit to THE PLAYROOM EXPERIMENT project, you can support it for as little as

$2 each month. And again, that means for every 100 supporters, we can institute a new gaming program every year.
